From the Coach: The Jerseys now have completed their second consecutive perfect district season running their district streak to 28 in a row. The great thing about this year's 10-0 is that there is no question left to be answered as our kids just played very well during the second half, in fact, they ten-ruled everyone in the district. This had never been done by any of our teams of the 90's. The Jerseys now have a bye until the area round which starts the week of May 13th. We are looking for warm up games so stay tuned to Radio Station KPSO 106.3 FM for further details. GREAT JOB Jerseys and Jersey Fans!

From the Coach:
We thought it did not get better than it did at Mathis but this one had all the makings of a classic showdown. Our fans and fans throughout South Texas saw one gusty game by both teams. The Jerseys just couldn't put the Longhorns away by leaving 19 runners stranded on base while Hebbronville had 8. David Vela came off the bench in the eighth and drove a single between SS and 3rd for the win. Vela's big hit is just another example of someone on this team stepping up when the team needs it. Jerseys entertain San Diego at home Tuesday at 7:00. This will also be Parent's Night.

 Tuesday 3/28/00  1  2  3 4  5  6   7 R  H  E
Falfurrias Jerseys 2 0 0 1 0 0 1 4 6 1
Mathis Pirates 0 0 1 1 0 0 1 3 6 3

Winning Pitcher: Rey Guerra (4-2). The save by Brian Boerjan was his third. Combined Ks = 13.
Fal: Rey Guerra pitched 6 1/3 innings. Brian came in to relieve Rey with bases loaded and one out.

Leading hitters: Gilbert Hinojosa 3-3, 2 RBIs; Mark Cates 1-3, 3 runs, 3 SB.

From the Coach:
What a game, it doesn't get any better than this one. With the count 3-2, bases loaded, and the score at 4-3, Brian Boerjan, in relief of Rey Guerra, came in with an 80 mph fastball to retire Mike Carranza who had homered earlier off Rey Guerra. Mark Cates and Gilbert Hinojosa carried the load offensively tonight. Mark scored 3 runs with 3 steals and Gilbert got 3 of the 6 hits. This win keeps the Jerseys one game up on Bishop and Hebbronville.

This Friday, Hebbronville comes to town for a must win for the Longhorns. Game time is set for 7:00 pm.

 Friday 3/24/00  1  2  3 4  5  6   7 R  H  E

Fal: Brian Boerjan winning pitcher with 8 Ks.
Leading Hitters: Mark Cates 4-4, 2-3B, Albert Gonzalez 2-2, 2RBIs, Charlie Silva 1-2, 2 RBIs.

From the Coach:
Jerseys responded with a great offensive attack. The team was not satisfied with their performance in Bishop and wanted to play a lot more like they are capable of.
Brian Boerjan was two outs away from the Jerseys second no-hitter of the year.
Jerseys travel to Mathis, Tuesday, March 28th for an important road game before finishing the first half of district this Friday against arch rival Hebbronville.

 Tuesday 3/21/00  1  2  3 4  5  6   7 R  H  E
Falfurrias Jerseys 0 2 1 1 0 2 5 11 8 4
Bishop Badgers 0 0 2 0 7 0 0 9 5 5

Fal: Rey Guerra starts on the mound. Brian Boerjan (4-0) comes in to relieve Rey in 5th with one out.
5th inning becomes a nightmare for the Jerseys.
Fal: Charlie Silva 1-3, 2 RBIs; Gilbert Hinojosa single; Albert Gonzalez 2-2, 2 RBIs; Mark Cates RBI single; Keoki Guerra 1-3, 3 RBIs.
Bishop: Cody McCarty (88 mph) comes in to relieve Cliff Knapp in the 6th with one out. Knapp comes back to pitch in the 7th with no outs and two runners on. Knapp relieved by D.R. Patrick in the 7th with game tied at 9.

From the Coach:
Jerseys came from behind in the seventh with some kind of finish after blowing a four run lead. The Jerseys capitalized on several key Bishop errors and the wildness of fireballer Cody McCarthy.
The Jerseys scored 7 runs to keep their undefeated district streak in check. This was a big win on the road as Bishop figures to be in the race all the way.
A young Jersey team kept their cool and poise when it was needed the most. "Champions find a way to win" is how one of our loyal fans described the ball game.
Next game versus Orange Grove at Fal 7:00 pm Friday. Orange Grove comes to Fal at 1-1 with a 10 run win over San Diego.

 Friday 3/17/00  1  2  3 4  5  6   7 R  H  E
Falfurrias Jerseys 3 0 5 5 0 0 13  26 19 3
San Diego Vaqueros 0 4 1 0 0 0 0 5 4 5

Winning Pitcher: Brian Boerjan 9 Ks, Relief by Rey Guerra in the 5th, 8 Ks.
Leading Hitters: Carlos Silva 3-3, 2 RBIs; Mike Gonzalez 3-4, 4 RBIs; Carlos Villarreal 3-5, DB-RBI;
Rolando Quintanilla 2-2, 3 RBIs.
San Diego Leading Hitters: Erik Valdez 1-4, DB; Anthony Guerrero 1-3, DB, 2 RBIs.

From the Coach:
Note: Fal had 17 singles and 2 DBs along with 7 SBs. The game started with 5 starters being benched for violating 9:30 curfew and a young Jersey Team consisting of Carlos Silva at catcher, Jaime Ruelas LF, Tommy Villarreal RF, Ruben Mejia 3B, Keoki Guerra at SS, and Brian Boerjan starting over Rey Guerra. Team policy dictates 1st offense - a player cannot start and they didn't play until the 5th and 6th and 7th and that's one of the reasons for an early struggle and a late burst in the 7th inning. Jerseys meet arch rival Bishop this Tuesday at Bishop for what shapes up to be an early season showdown for the four-time defending Champions. (96-99)
