From the Coach: The Jerseys played a whole lot better defensively
and had some big hits which helped capitalize on 6 BB. Catcher
Gilbert Hinojosa threw out 3 for 3 on the steal department which
helped our cause also.
Note: Brian Boerjan was taken to the doctor due to pain
he was experiencing on his throwing shoulder, so Mark Cates'
performance on the mound was a great dose of medicine for our
team right now, since we also have Carlos Villarreal out with
a torn hamstring muscle. Our kids responded to the challenge
tonight.
Thanks, see ya Saturday,
Coach Salinas
Next scrimmage - Saturday at 2:00 vs. Flour Bluff.
From the Coach: Both teams had many walks with Fal having 10
and Flour Bluff having 8, but the Jerseys capitalized with runners
on base and played great defense to stop several key rallies.
This ends our 2000 scrimmage season which has provided us many
new surprises. Things were grown to be expected from our players
and it has unfortunately brought several key injuries to Brian
Boerjan and Carlos Villarreal. Brian will be released next Friday
and Carlos is on a day to day with his muscle injury to his leg.
We must also mention A.J. Garza, a promising sophomore 3rd baseman
is out for several weeks with a hairline fracture to his big
toe. If you're wondering about Mark Cates not pitching, he had
a sore arm Friday after infield drills and we want to rest him
for our season opener.
Jerseys travel to Laredo next Thursday to open the 2000 Season
against Laredo Martin in the nightcap of the Border Olympics
Tournament. Game time is 7:00 p.m.
