Winning Pitcher: Carlos Villarreal 5-0, 11 K's.
Leading Hitters: Keoki Guerra 2-2, 1HR; Carlos Villarreal 3-3; Josh Cosby 1-2; Mike Gonzalez 1-3; Tom Villarreal 2-2; Trey Garcia 3-3.

From the Coach: It was great to get the first district win out of the way and now we can concentrate on Bishop. Bishop was a 9-4 loser to Zapata so I expect them to be mighty hungry for a win on Friday. Mike Gonzalez keeps his streak going and our team keeps its district win streak going. Carlos Villarreal pitched a great game and our kids took advantage of everything that was given to them.

Winning Pitcher: Brian Boerjan 7-0, 12 k's.
Leading Hitters: Keoki Guerra 1-2, 2 RBIs; Carlos Villarreal 1-4, 2db; Josh Cosby 2-4, 2b; Mike Gonzalez 1-4; Jaime Ruelas 1-2 rbi; Ruben Mejia 1-3, 2b, 2 RBIs; Charlie Silva 2-4, 2 RBIs.

From the Coach: This was a big road win for our ball club. Your goal is to at least win 3 out of five of your road games and winning two already puts us in good shape and Bishop in a deep 0-2 hole. Our kids left Bishop with a little more respect for Roel Saldana than they had for him when they got there after he struck out 12 Jerseys a season high. The young man will be a major factor in this district race and he is only a sophomore. Well, Brian Boerjan continues his 17 game regular season win streak and Mike Gonzalez continues his hitting clinic at 37 out of 38. The Bishop victory marks the Jersey's 30th district win in a row. Jerseys return home Tuesday night for the home district opener against Orange Grove.

Winning Pitcher: Mike Gonzalez 2-1; save - Carlos Villarreal
Leading Hitters: Keoki Guerra 2-3; Carlos Villarreal 1-4; Josh Cosby 1-4; Mike Gonzalez 3-3, 2-rbi's; Tom Villarreal 1-2, 2 rbi's; Charlie Silva 3-3, 2 rbi's; Ruben Mejia 1-3; Jaime Ruelas 1-3.

From the Coach: After 2 days of waiting for mother nature to cooperate, we got our game in and we were very happy to come out with a win. After committing a season high 8 errors the Bulldogs gave us all we wanted. The game ended with bases loaded - one out and a ground ball hit to Mark Cates who caught the grounder tagged the runner and threw to first for a game ending double play. By the way Mike Gonzales' streak continues and our district win streak goes on to 31 in a row.

Game #20

Falfurrias Jerseys 4 0 1 6 1 - -

Hebbronville Longhorns 0 0 1 0 0 - -

Winning Pitcher: Freshmen Bobby Gomez 1-0; save Brian Boerjan
Leading Hitters: Keoki Guerra 1-3; Mark Cates 1-2; Carlos Villarreal 1-2; Mike Gonzalez 1-2; Tom Villarreal 1-1; Jaime Ruelas 2-3; O.J. Trevino 1-1.

From the Coach: Surprise, surprise, surprise, Bobby Gomez starting over Brian Boerjan, that's what Hebbronville and a capacity crowd in Hebbronville were saying in the stands. Bishop may have a sophomore lefty but we got a freshmen lefty that our district will have to reckon with for the next 3 years. Our Jerseys played 110 % better than last night. We were focused and took advantage of every opportunity Hebbronville gave us. Mike Gonzales keeps his streak going and so does our teams' district win streak — continues to 32 in a row. Next Tuesday we await the Zapata Hawks in a long anticipated match up.

Falfurrias Jerseys 0 4 1 0 1 0 0

6 6 1
Zapata 0 3 0 0 0 0 0

3 8 2

Winning Pitcher: Brian Boerjan 8-0 had 4 Ks.
Leading Hitters: Keoki Guerra 1-3; Carlos Villarreal 2-2, 1 RBI; Josh Cosby 1-2, 1 RBI; Charlie Silva 1-3; Ruben Mejia 1-3, 4 RBIs, grand slam HR.

From the Coach: Well, the much anticipated match up proved to live up to all expectations. Zapata jumped on us early and our kids crawled and scratched for every run today with the exception of Ruben Mejia's grand slam HR in the second. Brian Boerjan feeling under the weather tonight had a tough outing but was tough enough to find a way to win tonight. This marks Brian's 18th in a row. On the other hand Mike Gonzalez hit streak came to end but helped his team win by laying down a bunt that help load the bases in the second when Ruben Mejia hit his grand slam. Well, all ends well tonight and that raps up the first half of play with a perfect 5-0 record and Friday, San Diego comes to town on Parents Night. The second half of the district season will give the Jerseys 3 out of 5 games at home.

Game #22

San Diego Vaqueros 4 3 0 3 0 0 1

11 9 2
Falfurrias Jerseys 5 0 3 4 0 0 -

-
12 15 6

Winning Pitcher: Brian Boerjan 9-0 came in relief of Mike Gonzalez in the
fourth and Mike Gonzalez was in relief of Bobby Gomez in the second.
Leading Hitters: Mark Cates 2-4, 1 RBI; Tom Villarreal 4 -5, 4 RBIs; Keoki Guerra 1-5; Carlos Villarreal 3-3, 2 RBI; Charlie Silva 1-2, 2 RBIs; David Vela 2-2, 1 RBI; Jaime Ruelas 2-2, 1 RBI.

From the Coach: We had to take out everything we had to hold off a very much improved San Diego team. We made some critical errors at unfortunate times to aid the cause. Brian Boerjan came in the fourth and claimed his 19 win in a row during the regular season. Mike Gonzalez hitting streak was stopped but his on base streak continues. He has gotten on base on every game for the last 2 years. With Bishop's win over Zapata, the Jerseys have a two game lead over Bishop, three on Zapata, and four on Hebbronville and Orange Grove. Bishop comes to town Tuesday night on teacher appreciation night and I expect them to give us all we want and challenge us for the district championship. We, on the other hand, will be looking to claim another district playoff spot. This will mark our 11th in a row with the 1995 team losing their playoff game for a playoff spot. That would be the only time we did not participate in the State Playoffs since 1991. Our kids are very proud of their tradition and have worked extremely hard to uphold that honor. I expected them to be on their "A" game Tuesday night!

Winning Pitcher: Brian Boerjan 10-0, with 8 Ks and no walks.
Leading Hitters: Jaime Ruelas 2-3, 1 rbi; Mark Cates 1-3, DB, Tom Villarreal 1-1; Carlos Villarreal 1-3; Keoki Guerra 1-3, 1 RBI, Josh Cosby 1-3.

From the Coach: The Jerseys played defense like a championship team does, turning 3 double plays to help Brian Boerjan win his 20th regular season win in a row. The Jerseys now claim at least a share of the District Title with 3 games to go and Bishop and Zapata have a 4-3 record. We are in the State Playoffs for the 6th year in a row and have qualified for a District Playoffs for 11th year in a row. Our next goal is to claim the title outright next Tuesday in Orange Grove. It was a great win on Teacher Appreciation Night. Our kids showed another side of themselves tonight and that side is called defense. Our kids knew defense wins championships and offense wins games. But you got to have defense to win the BIG ONE! We are off Friday due to the District Track Meet Thursday and the celebration of Good Friday. Have a safe and Happy Easter - Jersey Fans!

Winning Pitcher: Carlos Villarreal 6-0 , 6 K'S.
Leading Hitters: Mark Cates 1-3, 1SB; Tom Villarreal 2-4, 2 RBI'S; Carlos Villarreal3-4, 2 RBI'S; Keoki Gguerra 2-3, 2 RBI'S; Mike Gonzalez 1-4; David Vela 2-2, 1 RBI.

From the Coach: Congratulations to the Fightin' Jerseys for winning their 6th straight District Title. Our kids are starting to play defense like a championship team. Our pitching has been pretty consistent all year long and we probably have the best hitting team we have had in a long time. Our next team goal is to go undefeated in district for the third straight year. This Friday will be Senior Night as 11 seniors make their last scheduled appearance at Jersey Field. It is also our 10 Year Reunion for our 1991 State Champs. They will be recognized before the game. It should be a great game as we host the Hebbronville Longhorns who happened to upset the Zapata Hawks tonight. That leaves Bishop at 5-3 and Zapata at 4-4 with two games to go. GREAT JOB JERSEYS!

Hebbronville Longhorns 2 0 1 1 0 1 0

Falfurrias Jerseys 1 2 0 0 1 0 0

Losing Pitcher: Brian Boerjan 10-1, 9 Ks
Leading Hitters: Mark Cates 1-4, 1 2B; Tom Villarreal 1-3; Carlos Villarreal 1-3; Keoki Guerra 1-4; Ruben Mejia 1-3.
From the Coach: Well, what can I say. Too many errors and not enough hits and a very determined Hebbronville Longhorn Team was the story in this game. Hebbronville had to win to stay in the play-off run and we just played too relaxed. It was a great night with many of my heroes showing up for the 10 year reunion of our '91 State Championship Team. In 1991, we lost one district game and then took off to capture a State Championship. Let's just hope for deja vu. Jerseys travel to Zapata Tuesday to finish up the District Schedule and have scheduled a game with Sharyland on May 3 or 4 at Pan-Am Field. Hey, don't worry Jersey fans, the sun will come out tomorrow and our Jerseys will bounce back!

Falfurrias Jerseys 1 0 0 0 0 0 0

-
1 3 1
Zapata Hawks 0 0 2 1 0 0 0

3 3 2

Losing Pitcher: Carlos Villarreal 6-1; Bobby Gomez in relief in the 5th.
Leading Hitters: Mark Cates 1-3; Carlos Villarreal 1-3; Charlie Silva 1-2.

From the Coach: Great pitching by all three pitchers but Zapata made their 3 hits count for 3 runs while we made ours count for 1 run. I take nothing away from Zapata but our kid's minds were wondering about the condition of their teammate Joe Guerra and his family. Their home burned to the ground earlier this morning and his father and mother were badly burned. Thank God they are both doing better and will be back cheering for the Jerseys before we know it.
Well folks, I did not want to end District Play with two losses but sometimes we learn more from losses than 20-some wins. We will play Riviera on Monday in Fal for a warmup game and we will play Sharyland on Friday May 4 at PanAm. Both games are scheduled for 7 p.m. Let us focus, this game of baseball is simply a game and nothing more! Today we are reminded of this!
