Leading Hitters: Charlie Silvas 2-3; Trey Garcia 1-3; Josh Cosby 1-3, 2 RBIs; Clayton Boerjan 2-4; Homer Villarreal 2-4; Bobby Gomez 2-2, 2 RBIs.

From the Coach: What a game. Just when you think you have things under control, the roof caves in. Let's give credit to San Diego for not quiting on this one and let's give credit to our kids for turning it up a notch when we needed to. Bob Gomez came in relief of Josh Cosby in the 5th, who came in relief of Homer Villarreal in the 4th. A win is a win and we are 1-0 in district, now let's get ready for Bishop.

Leading Hitters: Josh Cosby, Charlie Silvas

From the Coach: This game came down to a good pitcher stopping a good hitting team. Bishop captialized on our two errors and we didn't. Roel Saldana is the best pitcher we faced this year. He has grown up a lot since last year. Our ball club has an uphill chase now but I am not concern at this time because the season is young and our kids have always responded to every challenge. Our next game is with Orange Grove, I can't wait to see this young ball club responded to the challenge.

From the Coach: Well, I guess I got the response I needed from this young club. Let's give Orange Grove credit for hanging tough early in the game. Our bats came alive again in the 5th inning on. Homer Villarreal had 11 Ks and our defense played better than they did on Friday. I saw a lot of smiles tonight and I hope we keep them on til Thursday night while we play unbeaten Hebbronville.

From the Coach: Well, the boys came to play tonight. They felt that had something to prove and regain some respect. Bob Gomez pitched a great game despite our defense losing focus there in the middle of the game. I give Hebbronville credit, those kids never quit. Well, the win puts us back in 2nd place with a big game next Tuesday in Zapata and Hebbronville has a big game with Bishop. This race is long from over. Have a Happy Easter!

From the Coach: Well, what can I say but our boys had their hitting shoes on tonight. Trey Garcia was on fire tonight with 2 homeruns and 2 solid singles. Bob Gomez continues to carry this team on the mound. This was a big road win for our kids. Now that puts us where we want to be going into the second half of district. Everything is still in our hands when it comes to claiming another district title. Before tonight's games, Bishop was 4-0, Hebbronville was 3-1, Zapata was 2-2, Orange Grove 0-4, and San Diego 0-4.

From the Coach: Congratulations goes out to San Diego who played their hearts out. The Law of Averages caught up to us like everything else. We had not lost to San Diego in about 14 years. It was a tough lose for our kids but
tomorrow we will get back on the saddle and prepare for the next challenge. The bottom line was they got the timely hits and made the routine plays and we didn't tonight. The standings going into the second half were Bishop 5-0, Fal 4-1, Hebbronville 3-2, Zapata 2-3, San Diego 1-4, and Orange Grove 0-5.

From the Coach: We would like to congratulate Bishop on claiming at least a co-championship tonight. Bishop has a good ball club and deserves the title. Our kids played with a little more emotion tonight and perhaps the week off will help heal some injuries and give us time to work on things that need fixing. We are off Friday due to the district track meet. We return home to play Orange Grove next Tuesday and we will honor our parents that night. The district standing as of tonight were Bishop 7-0, Hebbronville 4-2, Fal 4-3, Zapata 2-4, San Diego 2-4, and Orange Grove 0-6.

From the Coach: With this win the ball club clinches at least a playoff for the playoffs with either Zapata or San Diego. Now if Hebbronville beat Zapata or Bishop beat San Diego, we are in the playoffs for at least 3rd place. We play Hebbronville Friday to probably determine 2nd or 3rd place. Our goal every year is to make the playoffs and then take your best shot at a State Title. Our young ball club is learning to play in this pressure cooker called Jersey Baseball. They had to live up to a tradition, injuries, grades, and other distractions, but when it is all said and done another group of young men have stepped up to the plate and lived up to this tradition.

From the Coach: With this win we claim second place and our 11th playoff appearance in 12 yrs. Our kids brought their hitting shoes and they wore their jersey pride badge on their hearts. This bunch was predicted to finish 4th by the coaches in our district but our kids survived injuries, inexperience pitchers, and lost teammates to grades and still made the playoffs. I am so proud of them because they had to follow some very talented footsteps left by last years team. The playoffs start the weekend of May 4th. We got Zapata Tuesday to finish the season and one or two warmup games before the playoffs. Congratulations - Jerseys - You've made us - Jersey Proud!

From the Coach: Well, let's just say Zapata wanted this one a little more than we did. With this win Zapata and Hebbronville must play each other for third place. The bottom line is we committed too many errors. I am proud of the way we battled back and almost pulled this one out even with all these errors. We got some time to prepare our kids. The playoffs start next week with a possible match up with La Feria. We are looking for some warm up games in the near future before the playoff games.
