From the Coach: It sure is
good to get the first one. Now the pressure is on Mathis and
our kids should play more relaxed tomorrow. Let's give Mathis
credit, we had to earn everything we got tonight. A big triple
by D.C. Salinas helped push us over the hill tonight. Bobby Gomez
showed South Texas why he is one of the best around and our seniors
lead this team to victory. Tomorrow we travel to Texas A&M
Kingsville for game 2 and a chance to advance past area for the
fifth time in the 90's.

From the Coach: What a game
and what a series! The good Lord was smiling on us tonight and
several key role players did an outstanding job. What a job by
Mario Chavera and with a one run lead it was an easy decision
to bring Bobby in the 6th and 7th to close it since he had stuck
out 15 the night before. The play of the game was made by catcher
Robby Regalado as a pass ball was recovered by a hustling Robby
Regalado and a strike was thrown to Bobby covering home to stop
the tying run from scoring. The game ended with a short hop grounded
hit to 3b D.C. Salinas tagged the runner coming from second to
third. The runner tried to avoid the tag but a stretching tag
by D.C. ended the game just like it did in '91 in the state championship
game. We now play the winner of the Hondo vs Hidalgo series next
Friday and Saturday at a site t.b.a. CONGRATULATIONS BIG GREEN
FOR WINNING AREA! LET'S GET READY FOR THE QUARTER FINALS!
