From the Coach: We had them where we wanted them to be but couldn't bring'em in and we booted the ball around in the 3rd and 5th. Our kids have to come through when the opportunites arise. We had 7 runners in scoring position. Homer Villarreral pitched a good game allowing only 4 hits. We are going through some growing pains and dealing with several key injuries and possibly added another one Friday. We got Bishop at home Tuesday and they are also coming off a loss to Hebbronville, so this is a big game for both of us with no time to feel sorry about anything. We'll put nine out there and they will give it thier best.

From the Coach: Our kids responded with the character I knew they had. This was a big win for us. In this district you must win your home games. In a game that was to feature the top 2 pitchers in the area - Bobby Gomez and Roel Saldana, Mario Chavera stole the show with a 11 strike out outing. Both ace pitchers are nursing injuries and will be a difference in the second half of this race. Marcus Castillo 2 out triple in the 6th was the big hit we had to have. Getting the timely hits and playing good defense was the difference from tonight versus our last outing. From here we go to San Diego which upset us last year. I saw a change in our kids body language and I hope this will snow ball toward a good little run in district.

From the Coach: Good pitching, getting on base, and no errors equal a big win. Our kids played with a lot more confidence tonight. Danny Duarte, Santana Mejia, and Bobby Gomez did a great job on the mound and our defense played errorless ball. The best news didn't come till Saturday morning when Bobby Gomez came to practice with no pain in his shoulder after pitching 1 inning after a 3 week layoff due to an injury. Well, this Tuesday we play the best team in this district, the Hebbronville Longhorns. Coach Gonzie Trevino has done a tremendous job with that team in one year. The good news is that the game is at home and we are playing better. This game is all about pride and respect for the game.

From the Coach: What a game, emotions and tensions went up and down. Our kids hit the ball better tonight and we pitched a better game also. Good pitching and good hitting more times than not gets you a win. Now we are tied with Hebbronville for second. Zapata in first at 4-0. Hebbronville and Zapata play Friday and we go to a tough Orange Grove team.

From the Coach: Tonight we had our hitting shoes on and Mario Chavera was on. Orange Grove could never get anything going and our team as a whole had a good offensive outing. The best news came from Hebbronville as they defeated Zapata 5-4 to make it a 3 way tie for first between ourselves, Hebbronville, and Zapata all with a 4-1 record. We start the second half Tuesday at home versus Zapata.

From the Coach: Bobby Gomez is back and our team plays like another team with him on the mound. What started out to be a pitching duel turned out to be an offensive explosion for our team. Our kids executed Jersey Baseball and Bobby Gomez took care of the rest. We next travel to Bishop which has been tough at home over the years. Game is scheduled for Monday due to our district track meet scheduled on Tuesday and Wednesday. This Friday there is no game due to regional U.I.L. competition. This was a big win for our team and not playing til next Monday will help us prepare for Bishop.

From the Coach: The game started with a bomb hit by Bobby Gomez over the right centerfield fence. The rest of the game was a pitching duel between Kyle Richey and Homer Villarreal and Bobby Gomez. The pitchers combined for a total of 25 k's. D.C Salinas' two out rbi single in the 5th iced the game away. This win clinched a playoff spot for our ballclub. This will be the 8th in a row and 12 out of the last 13 years. This Thursday we play San Diego at home, it will be parents' night and teacher appreciation night. We are two wins away from another district championship which is our next goal. Congratulations to our kids, it has been an uphill battle since losing our first district game. The district standing are: Fal 6-1, Zapata 5-2, Hebbronville 5-2, Bishop 3-4, Orange Grove 2-5, and San Diego 0-7.

From the Coach: Well, win number 7 in district was not pretty but it was a win against a San Diego team that just won't quit. Mario Chavera struggled tonight but got some big strike outs when he needed them. Roli Gutierrez and Bobby Gomez stayed hot with the bats and our kids played good defense. With two games to go in district we just clinched as least a tie for 2nd place. This Tuesday night at Hebbronville, we will try to capture at least a co-district championship. The district standings are Fal 7-1, Zapata 6-2, Hebbronville 6-2 and the rest are mathematically out. Happy Easter Jersey Fans!!!

From the Coach: After Danny Duarte drew the opening walk and D.C. Salinas attempted sac bunt turned into a hit as their pitcher slipped off the mound, the rest was history. Everything seemed to go our way and not Hebbronville's way. Add the bad luck and Bobby Gomez on the mound and you got the making of a 10 run rule game. Congratulations to our kids they now have a share of the crown. To win another district title in Hebbronville, where my mentor Eliseo Ramos once coached, was special to me. This Saturday we go for the outright championship as we host Orange Grove on senior night and the 10 yr reunion of the 1993 state runner-ups. After tonight the standings look like this Fal 8-1, Zapata 7-2, Hebbronville 6-3, Bishop 4-5, Orange Grove 2-7, and San Diego 0-9. Congratulations again BIG GREEN!

From the Coach: After a shaky start to a very special night, our kids turned on the light switch and the rest was history. In front of the '93 state runner up team, this team showed flashes of that 93 team. Good defense, good pitching, and alot of key hits. Congratulations to our kids for accomplishing something not many experts predicted them to do and that was to win another district championship. A lot of credit goes to our senior leadership. When Bobby Gomez was hurt, Homer Villarreal and Mario Chavera carried this team along with the others that pitched in with hits and great defense. Well, this makes it 7 out of the last 8 and 12 out of the last 14 years. By winning the championship, we get a first round bye in the playoffs. We will play the winner of the Mathis / Pearsall series sometime next week. Again congratulations big green - THE TRADITION CONTINUES.
