Note: Welcome back Jerseys, what a way to start your season! We had our hitting shoes on and our pitching overpowered the EE batters. This year our team consists of 6 seniors, 5 juniors, and 4 sophomores. This is a great bunch of hard workers. They are very blue collar type with the only super star being Bobby Gomez and he is a humble, great kid. Look out Jersey Fans — this team could make some noise this May. The victory was great but even better was having my long time assistant coach back with me. Coach Sandy Guerra is back and is fresh and excited to be back, what a bonus for our program. My other assistants are Jordan Garcia and Marty Cabrera. We next take our shot at the Border Olympics tournament.

Note: What a way to start the tournament. Bobby was throwing strikes, and our defense was playing solid. Our kids are still hitting the cover off the baseball and you mix it up with good pitching and defense we'll win a lot of games that way.

Note: Well folks, the first lost is always the hard one to swallow but our kids must grow up fast. The next game will say a lot about our leadership and team character. This game came down too many walks and not enough key hits.

Note: Our pitching just ran out of gas in this big tournament. Laredo United South is the best hitting team we have seen this year and making 8 errors didn't help things out. What can I say, this are growing pains for a young team. We next travel to the Mercedes tournament.

Note: With two outs and time limit expiring Homer Villarreal hit a wall banging double to tie the game and the rest is history. Great job of kids never giving up.

Note: This was a great game to win on our last at bat says a lot for this team. This was a special win for our team and for Mario Chavera since recently we had just lost our dear teacher, friend, and supporter Mrs. Anita Salinas. Mario was one of her students and tonight he had something special behind every pitch.

Note: Our goal going into the tourney was to win the championship back after losing it last year. Our kids played very consistent all through the tourney and our pitching was outstanding. Well, we are looking pretty good right now, and now I am looking forward to playing at home at our Tournament. Our first game will be against our neighbor to the north, the Premont Cowboys, and it should be a good one.

From the Coach: Mario Chavera continues to show improvement as he is looking to be the #2 man on the rotation. Our defense played solid defense and we got luck to get some key hits and capitalized on some Premont errors. Pitcher Issac Lopez did a good job of keeping us off stride. Our next game will be against Hidalgo.

From the Coach: After winning an emotional game versus Premont, our kids were running on low and Hidalgo was on high. we made a tremendous comeback but it fell alittle short of time and runs. Soph. Santanna Mejia pitched good enough to win but we didn't support him like we should of. hey, there is no time to dwell on it, we must refocus and get ready for george west tonight in the first round of the single elimination winners bracket.

From the Coach: After our most disappointing lost of the season earlier today against Hidalgo, our kids bounced back a lot more focused. Homer Villarreal took control of the game and we created 6 runs on 4 key hits. This was a great test for our kids. Learning to bounce back from disappointment is something the team has to go through together. You can't coach it, you just hope your kids have it in them. Well, this win puts us in the championship against Lyford which is the best hitting team in the tournament. This will match last year's bi-district foes once again.

From the Coach: Our kids came to play this afternoon. Danny Duarte quiet Lyford's bats and our offense got rolling again. When we put the ball in play and run the bases aggressively and play good defense, we will are tough to beat. Robby Regalado kept the aggressive Lyford base runners off the bases with two throw outs at second. All in all it was a good tournament and thank God the weather cooperated. Well, from here on in it gets a lot more serious. Tuesday we go to Sinton and Friday to Corpus Christi Miller, then we come home for a game against Beeville before we go to Zapata for our first district game. Congratulations Jerseys on capturing 2 out of 3 tournaments this year.

from Coach: Milan Guerra made his pitching debut and had the Pirates going for 3 innings till he lost a little control and our defense had some mental errors that did not help our cause. If there is one thing our kids were reminded of tonight was that you can't give extra outs and free passes to good teams cause they will make you pay for it. It was a good game overall. I feel our kids came away feeling good about a possible rematch in late May. Well, from here we take on 5-A Miller in Corpus Christi on Friday. We beat them in Laredo but this Friday they will have some home cooking. It will be interesting to see how our kids play against a team they have beat before.

From the Coach: Our kids bounced back just fine after our loss to Sinton on Tuesday. Homer Villarreal was one pitch away from a perfect game and our kids adjusted well to the change of speeds Miller pitchers were throwing. We have Beeville at home Tuesday for our last non-district game before we hit the road to Zapata for our first district game.

From the Coach: Wow, I think we all woke up with stiff necks this morning. Beeville has some hitters on their lineup. Mario pitched well for 3 innings then we booted the ball around and gave too many outs to this good hitting team. It is not the way I wanted to go into district but better now then in district. It will give us a wakeup call and allow us to refocus and rededicate ourselves. We got Zapata on Friday as we open district on the road with the desire of recapturing our district title.
