2003 Regional Finals Results

Game #1

May 2003 1 2 3 4 5 6 7 8 9  R H E
Falfurrias Jerseys 0 0 0 0 1 - - - - 1 2 8
Sinton 3 9 0 2 x - - - - 14 11 1

Losing Pitcher: Mario Chavera 7-3; Winning Pitcher: Adrian alaniz 12-0
Leading Hitters: Milan Guerra 1-1; Role Gutierrez 1-2; Robbie regalado RBI.

From the Coach: When it rains it pours. A coaches worse nightmare is to be on a streak and it comes to a crashing end. For whatever reason, we just did not play well and Sinton is too good to commit 8 errors for. Adrian Alaniz showed why he is the states' top 3A pitcher and the Sinton Pirates showed why they are the defending state champs. I knew I had a major Psyche job to do within 30 minutes of the start of game two. Bobby Gomez on the mound would help that alot.

Game #2

May 2003 1 2 3 4 5 6 7 8 9  R H E
Falfurrias Jerseys 0 0 0 1 0 0 0 - - 1 4 2
Sinton 0 0 0 0 0 0 3 - - 3 3 5

Losing Pitcher: Bobby Gomez 10-1, 9 k's.
Winning pitcher: Adrian Alaniz in relief in the 7th.
Leading Hitters: D.C. Salinas 2-3, 2b, 1 run; Zeke Lopez 1-1; Trey Garcia 1-3.

From the Coach: In front of 4,000 people at the new Aviator Field in Robstown the South Texas crowd witnessed a great high school game. Bobby Gomez was everything people had expected to see and the Sinton Pirates were the defending state champs fighting to hang on to their title. I can not say enough about our kids character. All year long they have been ignored and not respected and after the first game how do you think they felt.

We got to witness a true definition of the word character. They could have quit or continued to play like Game 1, but they didn't. They took the defending state champs and all their arsenal to the last 3 outs. A cramping Bobby Gomez showed the heart of champion by pitching the last three innings on one leg. It makes one wonder what if he had not cramped up. The bottom line is Sinton had nothing to do with the cramp they had everything to do with executing a great last at bat. To my friend Gene Kasprzyk and the Sinton Pirates my respect for your program that is second to none. To the Falfurrias Jerseys, you made us very proud of what you accomplished this year. You went to places people said you could not go. You did what many said you would not do. When many expected us to take a year off, you worked your tails off and believed the unbelievable. I can honestly say you made coaching this year one of the most enjoyable years of my career. Words I have always used like unselfishness, pride, determination, character, attitude, communication, commitment, desire, and TEAM were defined for me in live action on the field. For the class of 2003, your leadership goes beyond words. This year could not have happened without your leadership. So to Mario Chavera, Homer Villarreal, Trey Garcia, Freddy Trevino, Clayton Boerjan, and D.C. Salinas, I thank you for 4 great years. I will definitely miss this bunch because this bunch grew up with D.C., my son. I watched them play from t-ball to the state regional finals. And finally to my son, it has been a privilege to watch you grow up to be a great young man and not a bad little baseball player. It has been an experience I will never forget and it was worth the wait.

To the Jersey Baseball Fans, we thank all of you that saw that first pitch against La Joya back in February. To those of you that saw the finished product this past Thursday, let me give you a warning now, don't wait too long next year to start believing in our team because next year could be a year to remember.

To Mr. Pulido, I thank you for all you do for many of our fans from far away. You provide a service that goes unmeasured and God only knows how many people read your web page to keep up with Jersey Baseball, again thank you. And remember, keep them swinging and make sure they touch'em all.

CONGRATULATIONS JERSEYS - STATE 3A REGIONAL FINALIST - a job well done!
