Comments: Two of the most famous baseball sayings come into play tonight — good pitching stops good hitting and defense wins championships. Mathis did both better than us and deserved to win the game. Saul did not have his best stuff but giving up only two hits should have been good enough. The bottom line on this one was Mathis had more experience and the law of averages caught up to us. I take nothing away from our kids, they played their hearts out and stood toe to toe with the Pirates. This season will be remembered for a bunch of young guys and 3 seniors getting together and making their minds up to playing Jersey baseball and continuing our district championship streak. I really enjoyed this season as I got to coach all levels of baseball. I had kids with no experience to kids with 4yrs and many in between. All in all I really liked this bunch. It got whatever youth I had in me out. They came to work and they played with all their hearts and all the knowledge they had. Yep! My little puppies grew up and can now defend for themselves. I can't wait for next year. We go to a new district with a very talented group of individuals with a little more experience under their belts. The sad part of playing your last game is saying good bye to my seniors. I had 3 great kids finish the year with me. They provided great leadership and patience. They were great role models on and off the field. This group of kids won 100 varsity games during their careers. They went to 3 regional championships, state finals, and won 4 straight district championships. So to Chris, Matt, and Smiley; you guys were great. Thank you for the memories, thank you for the respect we share together, for the pride you showed, and for the character you displayed, but most importantly the smiles you brought to the park everyday. We'll miss you and we wish you the best in the future. For you Jersey fans, it is a strange feeling not having another game in May but the future looks bright and I foresee things getting back to normal next year. Let's give these kids credit for withholding the Jersey tradition for you. Well, until next time, remember the sun will come out tomorrow and please touch 'em all because they need us.

Mr. Pulido, thank you again for an outstanding job. You are a true fan and even a bigger friend. People like you keep Jersey Baseball alive forever. Until next year, at the Border Olympics, take care and keep in touch.
