Comments: this was a great playoff game with alittle of everything. our kids never quit and lando guerra pitched with alot of heart. it was great to see jersey field filled to capacity again. i really was concerned with the long lay off but our kids have worked extremely hard the last three weeks and we hit the ball better than i expected. hidalgo was everything we thought they would be and. game two is going to be a battle at their place. our prayers are with henry cruz who broke his ankle tonight sliding at homeplate. on a personal note tonight marks win number 475 at fal high and this one was a special one.

Area Game #2

5/15/2009 1 2 3 4 5 6 7 8 9  R H E

Hidalgo 0 6 0 1 0 0 x - - 7 7 1

Leading Hitters: Gavin Trevino 2-3, Lando Guerra 2-4 rbi, R.J. Flores 1-3 2 rbi's, Robo Cruz 1-2, Matt Zuniga 1-2

Comments: We had one bad inning and didn't get the big hit when we needed it with the bases loaded in the 5th and 6th. Tonight Hidalgo wanted it a little more than we did. Mark Gomez did an outstanding job in relief. We now go to game 3 of a very good series. The series goes back to Falfurrias which should help our kids. The news on Henry Cruz is good. He had his ankle put back in place and will have surgry sometime next week.

Comments: After waiting a couple of days to get game 3 in, this series did not fail to please the baseball gods. It was like a roller coaster ride. Our kids played their hearts out and never quit. What a show of character by our kids after being down by 4 in the first. Lando Guerra came in on 2 days rest and did a great job. The difference in the game was Hidalgo got key hits with runners in scoring position and we needed one more and couldn't get it through their infield. A tough call by the umpire disallowed our go ahead run in the 6th not to count due to a call of leaving early from 3rd. All in all our kids played great and I am extremely proud of them. When this season started no one gave them a chance to have a wiinning season but their hard work and dedication allowed them to reach the playoffs. This team was lead by 4 great seniors, who in so many ways reflected the team itself. They were not the most talented players we have had at Fal High but they were the most coachable and hard working we have had in a long time. As I told them last night, it was an honor to coach them and I really mean coach them. In years past, I was more of a manager of egos, talent, discipline, etc. but this group was fun to come to work for. To our seniors, Marcus Martinez, R.J. Flores, John Zuniga, and Lando Guerra, thanks for the memories and may God bless you. To rest of us we are going to be in great shape next year. We will be a senior team with a lot of experience and we expect to uphold the tradition of Jersey baseball. The hurt will go away eventually, and I promise you the sun will rise again tomorrow and before you know it January will come around and a new start to a new Jersey baseball season will begin. Mr. Pulido again thanks for the web page and all you do for our program. You are a true Jersey baseball fan! Until next year - be sure to touch them all!
