2012 Pre-Season Box Scores

Pre-Season Game #1
2/20/2012 1 2 3 4 5 6 7 8 9  R H E
Falfurrias 0 2 1 6 1 - - - - 10 6 3
San Augustin (Laredo) 0 0 0 0 0 - - - - 0 0 1

Winning Pitcher: Joe David Cisneros, Chris Castillo came in relief in the 4th to combine for a no hitter.
Leading Hitters: Cisneros 2 hits/4 RBI, Reyes 1 hit/2 RBI
Comments: The start of the 2012 baseball season came to a successful beginning. The game started with some miscues that kept the game close but our kids started to feel the tempo of the game and things started to tick for us. Joe David Cisneros and Chris Castillo pitched a gem of a no hitter and our defense felt it and made some great defensive plays to keep the no hitter in place. We now take the next two days to prepare for our annual trip to the border olympics.

Laredo Border Olympics Game #2
2/23/2012 1 2 3 4 5 6 7 8 9  R H E
Uvalde - - - - - - - - - 11 - -
Falfurrias - - - - - - - - - 3 6 -

Losing Pitcher:
Leading Hitters: Cisneros 2 for 4, 3 RBI
Comments: Game One of the Border Olympics did not start out like we wanted to. We had too many walks and errors to beat a good Uvalde team. I am looking forward to see how we react against one of the tournament favorites in Alexander.

Laredo Border Olympics Game #3
2/24/2012 1 2 3 4 5 6 7 8 9  R H E
Falfurrias - - - - - - - - - 3 8 -
Laredo - Alexander - - - - - - - - - 4 - -

Losing Pitcher: Lorenzo Vela
Leading Hitters: Castillo 3 for 3, 1 RBI; Figueroa 1 for 3, 2 RBI
Comments: This game turned out to be quite a game. Our kids came out to play and gave Alexander all they wanted. The game was not decided until the last at bat with 2 outs for Alexander on a slicing 2b off the glove of our center fielder. Lorenzo Vela pitched a great game and we played a lot better defense today. We were very disappointed in the loss, but very satisfied with the effort.

Laredo Border Olympics Game #4
2/24/2012 1 2 3 4 5 6 7 8 9  R H E
Laredo - United South - - - - - - - - - 17 - -
Falfurrias - - - - - - - - - 9 9 -

Losing Pitcher:
Leading Hitters: Saul Hernandez 2 for 2; Cisneros 1 for 2, 2 RBI; J. Gonzales 2 for 2, 2 RBI; Figueroa 1 for 2, 2 RBI
Comments: This game had ugly written all over it. It started with an error and kept on walking to bitter ugly lost. You can't beat anyone with 12 walks and 3 hit batters. The loss to Alexander took a lot out of us emotionally and it showed on our performance. The only bright spot was that we hit the ball well and scored a season high of 9 runs. Well, the challenge is now on the senior class of 2012, we have never left the Border Olympics with a 0-4 record. We face an improving LBJ team tomorrow.

Laredo Border Olympics Game #5
2/25/2012 1 2 3 4 5 6 7 8 9  R H E
Falfurrias - - - - - - - - - 4 4 -
Laredo - LBJ - - - - - - - - - 3 - -

Winning Pitcher: Matt Ramirez
Leading Hitters: Vela 1 for 2, 2 RBI; Jasso 2 RBI
Comments: On a game with so much on it for our seniors, the game started in no way what we expected and before we knew it we had given up a 3 run lead. We left too many runners in scoring position and this game was closer than it needed to be. LBJ gave us all we could handle, but in the end our seniors stepped up and rallied for a come from behind win behind the tremendous pitching effort of Matt Ramirez. So congratulations to the senior class of 2012 the winning streak at the Border Olympics continues. We now get ready for our home opener against state ranked Bishop.

Pre-Season #6
2/27/2012 1 2 3 4 5 6 7 8 9  R H E
Bishop - - - - - - - - - 5 - -
Falfurrias - - - - - - - - - 1 - -

Losing Pitcher:
Leading Hitters: Vela 1 for 3, 1 RBI
Comments: This game had a playoff atmosphere all over it. The matched up of Chris Castillo vs. Bishops' Joseph Rubio. The game started out being a pitchers duel with Rubio and Castillo and Ramirez striking out a total of 26 batters. Rubio pitched a one hitter while we gave up only 4 hits. The key to game was Rubio had better control as we walked 9 batters and hit two batters. Walks and errors will kill you especially against good teams like Bishop has. We now get ready for the Mercedes tournament which will be our last tune up before our first district game next Monday.

Mercedes Tourney Pre-Season #7
3/2/2012 1 2 3 4 5 6 7 8 9  R H E
Falfurrias - - - - - - - - - 1 4 0
Harlingen South Hawks - - - - - - - - - 5 5 -

Los ing Pitcher: Cisneros
Leading Hitters: Gilbert Alegria Jr. 2 for 2, Cisneros 1 RBI
Comments: This game came down to Harlingen executing with runners on base and we left 5 in scoring position and couldn't bring them in. We played errorless baseball and our attitude was much improved. This game was a courtesy game because we had bye and Harlingen did us the favor of playing us. Tomorrow we continue tournament play with a second round game versus Mercedes.

Mercedes Tourney Pre-Season #8
3/3/2012 1 2 3 4 5 6 7 8 9  R H E
Falfurrias - - - - - - - - - 2 3 -
Mercedes Tigers - - - - - - - - - 11 10 -

Losing Pitcher: Vela
Leading Hitters: Saul Hernandez 1 hit, J.D. Cisneros 1 hit, 1 RBI; Figueroa 1 hit
Comments: This game went all wrong from their first batter. We just couldn't finish innings. We found ourselves getting hurt with 2 out s and two strikes several times in this game. One bad pitch or good pitch and an error with two outs will kill you at any level in baseball. We now get ready to play Los Fresnos for third place in the tournament.

Mercedes Tourney Pre-Season #9
3/3/2012 1 2 3 4 5 6 7 8 9  R H E
Falfurrias - - - - - - - - - 2 1 -
Los Fresnos Falcons - - - - - - - - - 8 5 -

Losing Pitcher:
Leading Hitters: Cisneros 1 hit, 2 RBIs
Comments: It all starts with pitching and can only be helped by good offense. This is what has been missing early this season. We can't buy a hit and we can't throw strikes consistently. We got one hit tonight and we walked and hit 8 batters. This is not how we wanted to end this tournament going into our district opener this Tuesday against Kingsville Academy but keep working and get better. Congratulations to Seniors Joe David Cisneros and Saul Hernandez as well as sophomore Gilbert Alegria Jr. for making the all-tourney team.

Fal Tourney - Game #10
3/10/2012 1 2 3 4 5 6 7 8 9  R H E
Lyford - - - - - - - - - 7 8 -
Falfurrias - - - - - - - - - 8 9 -

Winning Pitcher: Matt Ramirez 5 Ks
Leading Hitters: Castillp 1 for 4, 2 RBI; Saul Hernandez 2 fro 3, 2 RBI
Comments: This game had everything you wanted and didn't want as a baseball coach. We made 10 errors, got picked off twice and still managed to win the game. Matt hung in tough the whole game and we finally won it for him. This was an ugly win but give the kids credit for not giving in. We had to turn around and face a much improved St. Augustine team for the second round in our tournament as we played a double header.

Fal Tourney - Game #11
3/10/2012 1 2 3 4 5 6 7 8 9  R H E
San Augustine - - - - - - - - - 6 5 -
Falfurrias - - - - - - - - - 8 5 -

Winning Pitcher: Jasso
Leading Hitters: Castillo 2 for 3, 3 RBI; Cisneros 1 for 3, 2 RBI
Comments: After a come from behind win over Lyford we had to strap it on again and get ready to play a much improved St. Augustine team which earlier beat Lyford in their own come from behind win. This game was to advance to the championship. Just like I thought St. Augustine jumped on us as we were still celebrating the Lyford win. We got the wakeup call and took the lead in the second and hung on to advance to the championship versus district rival Riviera. This was a great opportunity for us to experience a double header just like we might in the playoffs. Although they were ugly wins by our standards, we found a way to win so we got something out of 7 hours of baseball. Unfortunately Mother Nature did not cooperate and the tournament was washed out. We now get ready for district game two against Edinburg Quest.

Non-District - Game #12
3/30/2012 1 2 3 4 5 6 7 8 9  R H E
Falfurrias 0 0 1 1 0 5 2 - - 9 7 2
La Feria 1 0 3 0 0 0 0 - - 4 6 4

Winning Pitcher: Save by Matt Ramirez who relieved JD Cisneros in the 4th. Ramirez relieved by Castillo in the 6th.
Leading Hitters: JD Cisneros 2-4, 4 RBI; Carrasco 2-4, 1 RBI
Comments: We traveled to La Feria to play a good 3-A school during our open date. The game did not start as we wanted it to. We probably didn't have the usual district motivation and our minds probably were on the prom. But our senior leadership stepped up and we fought through the rough start and we did enough to win. We now get ready for the second half of district with a one game lead over Hebbronville and two game lead over Santa Rosa.

Non-District - Game #13
4/5/2012 1 2 3 4 5 6 7 8 9  R H E
Marine Academy 1 0 0 0 0 - - - - 1 3 2
Falfurrias 0 2 1 6 2 - - - - 11 6 0

Winning Pitcher: JD Cisneros
Leading Hitters: Jasso 2-3, 3 RBI; Figueroa 1-1, 2 RBI
Comments: This game gave us an early challenge as the Leathernecks drew first blood. Our kids adjusted to their pitcher and were very disciplined as we capitalized on several walks. Joe David settled down after the third batter and Matt was on tonight with great control. Our defense made some great plays and were errorless. We now return to district play as we entertain Edinburg Quest.

Non-District - Game #14
4/27/2012 1 2 3 4 5 6 7 8 9  R H E
San Augustin (Laredo) 3 0 0 2 1 - - - - 6 9 1
Falfurrias 1 2 2 9 x - - - - 16 11 0

Winning Pitcher: Arevalo
Leading Hitters: Cisneros 3-3, 6 RBI; J. Gonzales 3-3, 4 RBI
Comments: Laredo jumped on us early and our kids kept their composure and slowly got back into it. We continue to hit the ball well. We let Jasso start the game but his control took him out early and then Freshmen Daniel Arevalo took over for him and did very well. Lorenzo finished the game. Laredo came into the game with a lot of confidence and they have shown great improvements. This win allows us to make it 15th in a row. We now have a short turnaround to get ready for the Alumni game.

Non-District - Game #15
4/28/2012 1 2 3 4 5 6 7 8 9  R H E
Alumni 5 0 3 1 2 1 1 - - 13 11 8
Falfurrias 2 1 0 0 3 10 x - - 16 11 3

Winning Pitcher: Matt Ramirez
Leading Hitters: Castillo 2-3, 3 RBI; Hernandez, Cisneros, Figueroa, Arevalo, & T. Gonzalez each had 2 RBI
Comments: What a night! We had so many special moments tonight with father and son pitching and catching, brothers pitching against each other, and so many other family ties. This game had a little more seriousness than last year. Our kids came in with a 15 win streak and the alumni came to take them to school. The Alumni took them to school earlier but the young ones paid attention and they came back strong with a well-learned Jersey Baseball lesson - keep playing all 21 outs. This game featured a great pitching staff for the alumni with Tydie Castillo and Bobby Gomez both pro draftees as well as many other all state pitchers. Players on both sides put on a good show to the near capacity crowd, which was good since all ticket sells go to help our neighbors to the north (Premont) with their school finance situation. This one was dedicated to Chris Maldonado our ex-state champion catcher and all I can say Chris would have been proud of the old guys and the new kids on the block. We love you Chris and pray you get well. Well, folks the next time we play might be a win or go home situation. Stay tune for Charanga time in Falfurrias.
