Winning Pitcher: Mario Hinojosa - Kingsville
Leading Hitters: JD Cisneros 2 for 3; Zuniga 1 for 3, 2 RBIs
Comments: This is not the way we wanted to start district. Our kids have just not found their identity. We are struggling offensively and our pitching has not had the control we started the year with. Mario Hinojosa pitched a great game against us. The good news is we get to continue to work on some of our issues in our tournament this coming weekend. In baseball more than any other sport you must have a short memory, the game is a game of failure and allows you the opportunities to make a wrong a right and that's our sole objective right now.

Comments: This game turned out like no one expected. What looked to be a good match up turned south for the Cowboys in the first inning. Our kids took advantage of everything given and we also did some major hitting tonight. We had Matt Ramirez pitching his game and Matt Zuniga hitting a grand slam along with John Michael Gonzales hitting a 3 run shot for our first homerun of the year. This team is playing well right now. They are learning their roles and having fun playing baseball. We now get ready for an Edinburg team we know nothing about. Game time is 7:00pm on Thursday at Jersey field.

Winning Pitcher: Chris Castillo
Leading Hitters: Chris Castillo 2 for 4, 3 RBI
Comments: This was a tough one to take. We did what we wanted to by taking the lead early and Chris Castillo pitched a great game for us. We did not help our cause by running ourselves out of some big rallies. I give Santa Rosa a lot of credit they stuck to it and came through when they had to and in the end executed better than we did at critical stages of the game. We now have to go back to work and find our baseball soul in each of one of us. We got to take things one pitched at a time. We got the Hebbronville Longhorns on Friday for an early must win in the first half of the district season. On a more serious note, I want to wish my classmate, friend, and tonight's opponents head Coach Rey Perez all the blessing in the world as he has kidney surgery next week. Rey has a cancerous tumor in his kidney and I pray they find no further signs of cancer. God bless you Rey.

Comments: This was a big win to put us back in the race. Our pitching and defense kept us in the game early and then our kids took advantage of the 6 free passes. This was a normal rival game with its ups and down. In the end we took advantage of our base runners a little more than they did. We now face Riviera in a big game to end the first half of this district race.

Winning Pitcher: Chris Castillo
Leading Hitters: Cisneros 2 for 4, 4 RBI
Comments: This game had all the emotions of a playoff game. Our kids came in total focus and are learning how to make bad situations into good opportunities. Tonight Chris Castillo pitched a great game with 12 k's and his partner Manny Ramirez our catcher did an outstanding job behind the plate. Our kids did a great job of being discipline at the plate by taking 9 walks and 2 hit batters. This win puts us back in the race and ends our first half of district with a 4-2 record. We now face Benavides in an non district game this Friday.

Winning Pitcher: Lorenzo Vela
Leading Hitters: Hernandez 2 for 3, 2 RBI
Comments: Wow, what a night. Our kids played well on a night that did not matter in the district race but did matter on us getting better. Matt Ramirez came in relief of Lorenzo Vela and closed the deal. Our kids continue to be very disciplined at the plate and our base running has improved 100%. This Tuesday shapes up to be a big game for us as Kingsville Academy comes to town in first place and it is a must win for a shot at the title. Well guys this night was very special for me as win number 500 finally came home. It has been a very special journey to get here. I still remember our first win back in `1989 against Sharyland. I have so many people to thank but it all starts with God for he has blessed me with a great family, great players, great assistant coaches, fans and an administration that has believed in me for 23 years. I came into this job with one goal, to give Falfurrias High School a baseball program they could be proud of and I wanted to make my ex-Coach Eliseo Ramos proud. He set the bar high for me and now we have raised it for those who follow. I am extremely proud and honored to be one of a few in our Coaching Association to win 500 games in one school and to do it at my alma mater is even a greater feeling. So, for all of you that have played for me you guys have touched my life in so many ways I will forever be grateful. God bless all of you and keep bleeding green.

Comments: This is a huge win for us. We were chasing Kingsville Academy and Santa Rosa for the lead. Our kids struggled early but they responded well to the challenge Academy threw at us. Chris threw strikes and our defense played well. We are now tied with Kingsville Academy and Riviera for second while idle Santa Rosa is one game up. We now get ready to face Premont the next big game.

Winning Pitcher: Matt Ramirez
Leading Hitters: Castillo 1 for 3, 3 RBI; Zuniga & Manny Ramirez 1 for 2, 2 RBI each.
Comments: This game started out like all rival games. Both teams seemed tense but laid back. It was a game that had its ups and downs with some great plays and some not so great plays. Our kids put together a couple of rallies to pull away from a very determined Cowboys team. I had expected Coach Guerra to have his team ready to play. Matt pitched himself out of some jams and our defense made key plays tonight. We now get ready to play Edinburg Quest on Tuesday. With this win and Santa Rosa losing to Hebbronville, we have a four way tie for first with Santa Rosa, Riviera, and Kingsville Academy tied with us. Tuesday will be Parents night before the game with Quest.

Comments: This game had a little bit of everything. We had our pitchers combine for a no-hitter and we hit 14 hits in 4 innings. Quest was just too young and our kids are on a roll right now. Tonight we honored our parents on parent's night. Everyone got a chance to show off their baseball skills in front of mom and dad. We will face Santa Rosa Friday in a huge game for first place.

Winning Pitcher: Castillo
Leading Hitters: Hernandez, 1 for 1; Jasso RBI
Comments: This game had all the tension of a playoff game. We have always stressed to our kids that defense wins championships and tonight our kids played great defense in the biggest game of the year. Chris Castillo pitched a great game and our small ball offense gave us all the offense we needed tonight. The win puts us ½ game ahead of Kingsville Academy with two big games remaining in Hebbronville and at home versus Riviera.

Losing Pitcher: Matt Ramirez
Leading Hitters: Cisneros 2 RBI; Castillo 1 RBI; Mejia 11 RBI
Comments: This one really hurts. We had an opportunity to control our destiny and we gave it away to a hungry Hebbronville team. We just played flat with no emotion and we left 13 men on base. We now fall into a three way tie for 1st with Santa Rosa, and Kingsville Academy.

Winning Pitcher: Castillo, 12 Ks
Leading Hitters: Castillo, 3 for 4, 2 runs, 1 RBI; Hernandez, 2 for 4, RBI; Cisneros, 1 for 3, RBI.
Comments: Wow! What a game. I challenged the kids to respond like champions and tonight they did not disappoint me. With two outs in the bottom of the 7th, Joseph Reyes comes off the bench to pinch hit, then Chris Castillo comes through with a double to tie the game and on the third pitch to Saul Hernandez, he delivered the game winning hit to give us a co-championship with Santa Rosa. Riviera played a great game and Moya, their pitcher, pitched a great game against us. We now take a week off to handle the TAKS test then we will host the alumni in an alumni game. We will honor the 1991 state champs and also our 3 seniors on senior night. This should be a fun night.

| Santa Rosa | 0 | 0 | 0 | 0 | 1 | 1 | 1 | - | - | 3 | 5 | 2 |
Winning Pitcher: Matt Ramirez pitched 5 innings, allowed 4 hits and 1 run; Castillo closed the game allowing 1 hit and 2 runs.
Leading Hitters: Hernandez 2 for 3, 2 RBI; J. Gonzalez 1 for 2, 2 RBI
Comments: The long anticipated game for the district championship finally came and tonight we took advantage of a bad outing by Phil Miranda, Santa Rosa ace pitcher. We capitalized on 9 walks and two hit batters for all the offense we needed tonight. Matt Ramirez was on tonight and Chris Castillo came in to close it. The victory gives our program its 16th district championship. We now await the winner of Luling and Poth. We are planning a warm-up game with Zapata district champion of district 32 -3A either Thursday or Friday at 7 in Zapata.
