Pre-Season
2/22/2011 1 2 3 4 5 6 7 8 9  R H E
St. Agustine 0 0 0 0 0 - - - - 0 0 5
Falfurrias 3 3 5 9 x - - - - 20 11 0

Winning Pitcher: Joe David Cisneros, no-hitter, 9 Ks
Leading Hitters: Joe David Cisneros 2 for 3, 3 RBI; Reyes 2 for 2, 2 RBI; Castillo 2 for 4, 1 RBI; Jasso 2 for 4, 3 RBI.
Comments: This was a great win for our kids. We needed some confidence going into the Border Olympics. Joe David pitched as well as you can on opening night. Our kids used their discipline and speed to create some offense. This team is going to be fun to watch grow up. They are hard workers and have fun playing the game. Our next game is at Border Olympics Thursday versus Uvalde at 3:30 p.m. I would like to thank the many fans and parents that have send their good wishes as I recover from eye surgery. A special thank you goes out to my assistants Gabriel Perez and Gus Esquivel. They have put this ship in the water and it's off to a good ride. Thank you also to our AD Joe Rios who has been very supportive during my recovery. God bless all of you!

Laredo Border Olympics Game #1
2/24/2011 1 2 3 4 5 6 7 8 9  R H E
Falfurrias 1 1 2 1 4 - - - - 9 6 2
Uvalde 0 0 2 0 4 - - - - 6 6 4

Winning Pitcher: Christopher Castillo
Leading Hitters: Christopher Castillo 2 for 4, 2 RBI; Joseph Reyes 1 for 2, 1 RBI; Matthew Ramirez for 2, 1 RBI
Comments: The young bulls held on to win number 2 and they are off to a great start at the Border Olympics. Chris Castillo had a one hitter going into the 5th inning. That is two great pitching performances by our pitchers. Our offense again was discipline and made good use of every hit. It is too bad we can't celebrate too long because we got the Toro's tomorrow morning. I get to see how our team reacts to victory tomorrow.

Laredo Border Olympics Game #2
2/25/2011 1 2 3 4 5 6 7 8 9  R H E
Laredo Cigarroa 0 0 0 0 2 1 - - - 3 7 2
Falfurrias 0 0 0 2 2 x - - - 4 4 4

Winning Pitcher: Matt Ramirez
Leading Hitters: Zuniga 2 for 2, 2 RBIs; Castillo 1 for 2, 2 RBIs
Comments: Well, this team answered one big question today. I was wanting to know how they would handle yesterday's success and they answered it very well. They came out and did what they needed to do to produce enough runs to win and our pitching continues to do very well. Defensively we had some mistakes but we made the plays when we had to. We now face the challenge of playing CC King and our first two game day of the year.

Laredo Border Olympics Game #3
2/25/2011 1 2 3 4 5 6 7 8 9  R H E
CC King 1 2 1 5 6 - - - - 15 12 1
Falfurrias 0 0 0 0 0 - - - - 0 0 1

Losing Pitcher: JD Cisneros 1 2/3, relieved by L. Vela 3 1/3
Leading Hitters: N/A
Comments: This one got away from us from the words 'play ball'. King has a good hitting team and not having Joe David healthy did not up the cause. Their pitcher, Marcus Zamunio, threw a no hitter at us. He kept us off balance and we could not hit anything solid and those we did, were taken care of by a very good defensive team. Now we will see how this group will react to this whitewash. It will not be easy as we play Laredo United next.

Laredo Border Olympics Game #4
2/26/2011 1 2 3 4 5 6 7 8 9  R H E
Falfurrias 0 0 0 1 0 - - - - 1 3 2
Laredo United 3 1 6 4 x - - - - 14 10 0

Losing Pitcher: Joseph Reyes
Leading Hitters: JD CIsneros 1 for 2, 1 RBI; Matthew Zuniga 1 for 2; Joseph Reyes 1 for 2.
Comments: This game reminded me that baseball must be played with a passion and that one should have a short memory in this game. Our young team needs to understand this and stop beating up themselves internally. Laredo United has a good team and we don't have the depth to compete with them on game 4 of a major tournament. All in all, I was pleased with our performance. I saw some good things and I saw some things we need to work on. It is early and the mistakes are very fixable. We now get ready to face Bishop on the road. Let see how this experience has helped us prepare for these road challenges.

Pre-Season #5
3/1/2011 1 2 3 4 5 6 7 8 9  R H E
Falfurrias 0 0 0 0 0 - - - - 0 0 6
Bishop 2 1 7 0 x - - - - 10 8 0

Losing Pitcher: Matthew Ramirez pitched 22/3 innings relieved by Jasso for 1 1/3 innings.
Leading Hitters: N/A
Comments: Today we played a good Bishop team that was ready to play and their kid Joseph Rubio pitched a great game. We have a lot of work to do between now and next Tuesday's district opener. We have to find some offense very quickly before we face our district opener. We are looking for more commitment from our kids. They must realize quickly that Jersey Baseball takes a passion, dedication, and a very serious commitment. We head to Mercedes for our next game.

Mercedes Tourney Pre-Season

Falfurrias 0 4 1 - - - - - - 5 4 0
Mercedes 1 5 7 - - - - - - 13 7 2

Losing Pitcher: Christopher Castillo 2 1/3 innings; Trey Jasso 2/3 inning
Leading Hitters: Joe David Cisneros 1 for 2, 3 RBIs
Comments: What started as a good comeback ended up being a stinker. Chris did not have his best control tonight and Mercedes made us pay for it. I was pleased with our kids' approach at the plate tonight and their desire to compete was great. We must find a way to put all phases of the game together in order for this team to succeed. It all starts with pitching and ends with pitching.

Premont 0 0 2 0 - - - - - 2 4 0

Winning Pitcher: Trey Jasso in relief of Lorenzo Vela
Leading Hitters: Matthew Zuniga 1 for 2, 2 RBI; Saul Hernandez 1 for 1, 2 RBI
Comments: This game was a big game for us coming off a disappointing loss to Academy. Our kids overcame many challenges today and put us back on the winning ways. Premont gave us all we wanted and made a statement today and in this tournament that they are to be reckoned with. We have a rematch with them on Tuesday.

Fal Tourney - Game 2

Comments: In this game we just didn't react like winners. We let the umpires get into our heads and we made some bad decisions on the bases. You just can't give good teams extra chances. This next game versus Laredo is a must win. We must win by 3 runs to advance to the championship. Laredo lost to Premont 4-3 and Odem 6-3 and Premont beat Odem.

Fal Tourney - Game 3
3/12/2011 1 2 3 4 5 6 7 8 9  R H E
San Agustine - Laredo 0 0 0 0 - - - - - 0 1 0
Falfurrias 1 3 9 x - - - - - 13 13 0

Winning Pitcher: Christopher Castillo 10 Ks
Leading Hitters: Joseph Reyes 3 for 3, 2 RBI; Lorenzo Vela 1 for 1, 2 RBI; JJohn Michael Gonzales 1 for 3' 3 RBI
Comments: Chris pitched as well as he has all year and our kids handled the double hitter well. We had to play right after the loss to Odem, so this was a good test of character and I got to see these kids fight with their backs against the wall. We had our hitting shoes on and Chris took care of the defense. We now face Bishop for the Championship.

Fal Tourney - Championship
3/12/2011 1 2 3 4 5 6 7 8 9  R H E
Bishop 3 1 1 3 0 1 0 - - 9 10 2
Falfurrias 3 1 0 3 2 0 1 - - 10 10 2

Winning Pitcher: Lorenzo Vela
Leading Hitters: Saul Hernandez and Joe David Cisneros both 2 for 3, 3 RBI; Trey Jasso 1 for 3, 2 RBI
Comments: This whole tournament has been so competitive with no team going undefeated. This game had a playoff atmosphere and both sides played hard and it came down to our kids wanted it a little bit more. Bishop had 'no hit' us and ten run ruled us earlier in the year so our kids just wanted to gain some self respect back. We found a new hero in Lorenzo Vela coming off the bench to pitch and getting some big hits in the clutch. This is exactly what we needed as we get back into district play Tuesday at Premont. Making the all tourney team were Lorenzo Vela, JD Cisneros, Chris Castillo, and Matt Zuniga.

Alumni Game
4/--/2011 1 2 3 4 5 6 7 8 9  R H E
Alumni 1 3 2 0 6 - - - - 12 17 1
Falfurrias 2 3 2 0 0 - - - - 7 5 2

Losing Pitcher: Jasso
Leading Hitters: Zuniga 2 for 3, 2 RBI; Carrasco 1 for 2, 2 RBI; Castillo, Hernandez, and Mejia each had 1 RBI.
Comments: This was a night to remember. A huge crowd came to honor the 1991 State Champs and other alumni. It felt like 1991 again with the charanga song playing and those great players on the field they made famous. It is no secret that because of the success of that team we got lights put on our stadium and it is because of the standards they left behind that we have the stadium we have now. As I expected these guys came to play and not just show up. After doing the score sheets I could not believe that they ripped out 17 hits. There were so many special moments tonight with brothers playing together or against each other. The game started with Tydie Castillo pitching to Chris Castillo his nephew and J.R. Castillo his father doing the catching. We had a slogan back in '91 that said "Dreams come true when dreamers come through". Tonight there were a lot of dreams that came true, that chance to come back to Jersey field and play baseball again became a reality. God Bless all of you for making tonight another special night in my coaching career.
